The Ones that Got Away...

These are posters that I have seen for sale, have a reproduction of like the London Postcards Hammer Collection or are alternative versions you might want to watch out for. I really have no business reproducing these images since I don't own them but as a collector I think something should be here, so I am keeping it low resolution.

Since these don't belong to me and contain images culled from Ebay or other places where I didn't record the original owner, there are few attributions. If you see something you know is your image and you object, let me know and I will remove it. If you would like to be credited with ownership, attribution of the image or a link to your website or business, let me know.

Offered on Ebay for about $600, looks nice but I am more of a Chantrell art person.

Have never seen one offered for sale...yet. Chances are when it is, I won't be able to afford it. First in an era...

This is a reissue re-release from the 60's sold for about $180 on Ebay in Feb 2006. I was kicking myself...let's face it, I will never own a copy of the original (Top of this page), a re-release would have been some consolation.

Never spotted one of these...

3-Sheet, Yep, another version I can most likely never afford.

Teaser, went for about $350 early 2007.

And Dave's very nice original quad, art by Bill Wiggins...wow.

Art from a  postcard and looks too garish to be original to me, I guess reissue but what do I know? (yep, D confirms reissue). I like that in Hammer sequels, Frankenstein the man was the enduring thread, he could always make another monster.

Very un-pc these days...never seen the quad at the top, the double bill poster in the middle showed up in early 2007, went for about $70.

Much nicer art than the reissue re-release version I have, must be why one like it sold at Christies for $3,060 in March 2006. Oh well...The London Postcard copy is taken from a trade ad (D).

On Ebay for $500, really not that tempted, nice poster but not a milestone film in my opinion.

The Phantom of the Opera (1962) / Captain Clegg (1962) Quad

Good year for films with 'iac in the title...this version was linebacked and went for $50 mid 2006.

Sold on Ebay for about $100 at end of 2006.

Re-titled US "These are the Damned" 1 sheet version of a film that may be dated but still haunts (me). Spawned a bunch of Damned sequels of varying quality and connection with the original. One of the sequels had the Brick wall visualization for blocking telepaths that became a cliché.

Not one I have seen, Black and White. Poster went for $150 in Mid 2006.

Last time I saw it, I bid on it, but whatever the reserve was my maximum wasn't close enough. Oh well, next time.

A few dealers seem to have it...high on my want list, made a big impression when dad took me to see it.

Whopper of a size 6-sheet went for $687 in Jan 2006.

Good movie but not so wild about the art so haven't been tempted by the $400-$700 price tags I've seen.

D has this ABC version,  a double with Plague of the Zombies.

Art is a bit odd in my opinion, Chantrell washed away with dayglo again, yet went for for $260 on Ebay then again for about $80 more recently. Must be cursed...I have a beaten up version which is less green and almost certainly a cut down version of the double featured below. Odd that this part of the poster would be cut out...

Frankenstein Created Woman (1967) Quad

So far I have only got my hand on the French art for this but I prefer it to the eye searing dayglo pink...as noted above this is also available as a double where the art isn't washed out with green or pink. Image borrowed from quadbod's site.

The nice color artwork version, seen on Ebay in Feb 2006 going surprisingly for about $400. I'd spent my budget...

Less colorful art but still nice.

Bad reviews but I quite enjoyed this film. Nicest poster version I have seen, Ebayed for just under $400 at end of 2006 and I missed it again early 2007 for $110.

More psycho-angst with Ms Davis, went for about $100 mid may 2007.

Spotted early 2006 on ebay, went for $90.

I like this movie, a bit off beat. Would be happier to shell out for it if the art was better but haven't even seen it offered for a long time.

I have never seen a quad version of this. This one sheet went for $15.

First and best movie of the Carmilla Trilogy, second best art (Twins of Evil is best). I have the double bill version.

Nice single feature version of the poster I have twinned with Twins of Evil. Ebayed for $100 late 2006.

This is the only quad version I've seen, went for about $85 in April. Bottom is a 20x30 teaser (D).

I have a version of this as a double bill with A Touch Of The Other, one pictured here went for $120 early 2007 on Ebay. A bit too pricey for me to upgrade since my double bill just has B movie in the same space as the tear off yellow panel text, so no new art exposed in this full quad.

Not Hammer but makes it in due to high nostalgia factor...first X rated Horror I ever saw in a Cinema on first release...mum took me!

Horst Janson, John Cater, John Carson, Caroline Munro, Shane Briant, Ian Hendry and Wanda Ventham

A better idea than Legend below but needed a better leading man than the Wooden Horst. Could have been good, wasn't...everyone else in it was, Brian Clemens wrote a good yarn. For a relatively recent film very few versions of the quad Poster around, this one went on Ebay for about $90 in mid 2006.

Have never been able get up the enthusiasm to buy this poster, though it gets more expensive the longer I put it off. Could have had I for a fiver twenty years ago, felt like too much even then. Bad idea, bad movie, the beginning of the end for Hammer. Last spotted going for $70...not from me.

The final nail in the coffin. No art in the poster or the movie. Lower on my wish list than even 7 Golden Vampires but since it goes for less than $20 occasionally I may give in just to cross it off the list. I was too young to the see the best of Hammer in cinemas, I saw them later on TV. This one I saw in a theater at release and was very disappointed. Didn't do justice to Dennis Wheatley or the Hammer legacy.

A film that never was...20x10 teaser for a 1978 proposal from Hammer that never got off the ground. Didn't stop the artwork selling for $50...

This one is by Jock Hinchliffe I think and I have only seen a couple of times. These used to show up regularly for decent prices but I haven't seen one for a while now...bugger, should have got them when they were cheap but isn't that the story of every poster on this site? What an insane hobby...
