The Ones that Got Away...

These are posters that I have seen for sale, have a reproduction of like the London Postcards Hammer Collection or are alternative versions you might want to watch out for. I really have no business reproducing these images since I don't own them but as a collector I think something should be here, so I am keeping it low resolution.

House of Horror cover

Since these don't belong to me and contain images culled from Ebay or other places where I didn't record the original owner, there are few attributions. If you see something you know is your image and you object, let me know and I will remove it. If you would like to be credited with ownership, attribution of the image or a link to your website or business, let me know.

quatermass xperiment.jpg (72142 bytes)The Quatermass Xperiment Quad Poster Quatermass Xperiment (1955) Quad

Top is from the London postcards and Dave tells me it is in fact from the Pressbook. He has the actual quad below.

quatermass ii.jpg (52023 bytes) Quatermass II (1957)

Offered on Ebay for about $600, looks nice but I am more of a Chantrell art person.

The Curse of Frankenstein Curse of Frankenstein (1957) Quad

Have never seen one offered for sale...yet. Chances are when it is, I won't be able to afford it. First in an era...

dracula reissue.jpg (38959 bytes)dracula_original_lp.jpg (165045 bytes)dracula 3sht.jpg (50995 bytes)dracula art bill wiggins.jpg (188379 bytes) Dracula (1958) Quad Art: Bill Wiggins

This is a reissue re-release from the 60's sold for about $180 on Ebay in Feb 2006. I was kicking myself...let's face it, I will never own a copy of the original (Top of this page), a re-release would have been some consolation.

Dracula (1958) 20x30 Double Crown

Never spotted one of these...

3-Sheet, Yep, another version I can most likely never afford.

Teaser, went for about $350 early 2007.

And Dave's very nice original quad, art by Bill Wiggins...wow.

revenge of frankenstein.jpg (91191 bytes) Revenge of Frankenstein (1958) Quad Art: John Stockle

Art from a  postcard and looks too garish to be original to me, I guess reissue but what do I know? (yep, D confirms reissue). I like that in Hammer sequels, Frankenstein the man was the enduring thread, he could always make another monster.

camp on blood island.jpg (74368 bytes)the camp on blood island.jpg (26316 bytes) The Camp on Blood Island (1958) Quad Art: John Stockle

Very un-pc these days...never seen the quad at the top, the double bill poster in the middle showed up in early 2007, went for about $70.

Bottom version ebayed for $60 early 2007.

yeserdays hero.jpg (26658 bytes) Yesterday's Enemy (1959) Quad

Spotted on Ebay for $40 mid 2007.

Hell Is A City (1959) Quad

Hammer with some Brit Noire, went for about $60 Mid 2007.

original mummy artwork The Mummy (1959) Quad Art: Bill Wiggins

Much nicer art than the reissue re-release version I have, must be why one like it sold at Christies for $3,060 in March 2006. Oh well...The London Postcard copy is taken from a trade ad (D).

brides of dracua 1 sheet.jpg (24014 bytes)brides of dracula.jpg (77869 bytes) Brides of Dracula (1960) One Sheet

Sold on Ebay for about $80 Feb 2006.

Brides of Dracula (1960) Half Sheet

Yet to spot a quad...

the stranglers of bombay.jpg (19129 bytes) The Stranglers of Bombay (1960) Quad

More xenophobia...I have a 1 Sheet

terror of the tongs.jpg (60742 bytes)terror of the tongs 2.jpg (56176 bytes) The Terror of the Tongs (1961) Quad

Seen going for $70 on Ebay in Jan 2006.

US version...

taste of fear.jpg (44453 bytes) Taste of Fear (1961) Quad

Another postcard.

phantom of the opera.jpg (29015 bytes)phantom of the opera captain clegg.jpg (82167 bytes) The Phantom of the Opera (1962) Quad Art: Renato Fratini

On Ebay for $500, really not that tempted, nice poster but not a milestone film in my opinion.

The Phantom of the Opera (1962) / Captain Clegg (1962) Quad

maniac.jpg (6289 bytes) Maniac (1963) Quad

Good year for films with 'iac in the title...this version was linebacked and went for $50 mid 2006.

Paranoiac 1963 Poster Paranoiac (1963) Full Quad initial release

Sold on Ebay for about $100 at end of 2006.

the damned 1 sht.jpg (90074 bytes) The Damned (1963) 1 Sheet

Re-titled US "These are the Damned" 1 sheet version of a film that may be dated but still haunts (me). Spawned a bunch of Damned sequels of varying quality and connection with the original. One of the sequels had the Brick wall visualization for blocking telepaths that became a cliché.

Nightmare 1963 Nightmare (1963) Initial release Full Quad

Not one I have seen, Black and White. Poster went for $150 in Mid 2006.

evil of frankenstein / nightmare double bill quad Evil of Frankenstein (1964) / Nightmare (1963)  Initial Release Double Quad

Evil of Frankenstein The Evil of Frankenstein (1964) Quad

Last time I saw it, I bid on it, but whatever the reserve was my maximum wasn't close enough. Oh well, next time.

21_1_b.jpg (34335 bytes) The Pirates of Blood River (1964) / Mysterious Island Quad

Seen on Ebay at $125.

she.jpg (16096 bytes) She (1965) Quad Art: Tom Chantrell

A few dealers seem to have it...high on my want list, made a big impression when dad took me to see it.

08_1_b_6sheet.jpg (44525 bytes) One Million Years BC (1966) 6 Sheet

Whopper of a size 6-sheet went for $687 in Jan 2006.

dracula prince of darkness.jpg (63736 bytes)Dracula Prince of Darkness Plague Zombies.jpg (974698 bytes) Dracula Prince of Darkness (1966) Quad Art: Tom Chantrell

Good movie but not so wild about the art so haven't been tempted by the $400-$700 price tags I've seen.

D has this ABC version,  a double with Plague of the Zombies.

rasputin the mad monk reptile.jpg (75885 bytes) Rasputin the Mad Monk (1966) / The Reptile (1966) Quad Art: Tom Chantrell
mummys shroud.jpg (39492 bytes) The Mummy's Shroud (1967) Quad Art: Tom Chantrell

Art is a bit odd in my opinion, Chantrell washed away with dayglo again, yet went for for $260 on Ebay then again for about $80 more recently. Must be cursed...I have a beaten up version which is less green and almost certainly a cut down version of the double featured below. Odd that this part of the poster would be cut out...

frankenstein created woman.jpg (18655 bytes)

Frankenstein Created Woman (1967) Quad

So far I have only got my hand on the French art for this but I prefer it to the eye searing dayglo pink...as noted above this is also available as a double where the art isn't washed out with green or pink. Image borrowed from quadbod's site.

the devil rides out nice art.jpg (36834 bytes)the devil rides out red art.jpg (32339 bytes)the devil rides out slave girls.jpg (38533 bytes) The Devil Rides Out ((1968) Full Quad Original release Art: Tom Chantrell

The nice color artwork version, seen on Ebay in Feb 2006 going surprisingly for about $400. I'd spent my budget...

The Devil Rides Out (1968) 70's Re-release Quad

Less colorful art but still nice.

The Devil Rides Out (1968) / Slave Girls (1967) Initial Release Double Quad

Also sold on Ebay in Feb 2006, for about $160.

the lost continent.jpg (44059 bytes) The Lost Continent (1968) Quad Art: Tom Chantrell

Bad reviews but I quite enjoyed this film. Nicest poster version I have seen, Ebayed for just under $400 at end of 2006 and I missed it again early 2007 for $110.

the anniversary.jpg (19664 bytes) The Anniversary (1968) Quad

More psycho-angst with Ms Davis, went for about $100 mid may 2007.

crescendo.jpg (26537 bytes) Crescendo (1970) Quad Art: Tom Chantrell

Spotted early 2006 on ebay, went for $90.

blddrac.JPG (541652 bytes) Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970) Quad Art: Tom Chantrell

I like this movie, a bit off beat. Would be happier to shell out for it if the art was better but haven't even seen it offered for a long time.

horror of frankenstein.jpg (36660 bytes) Horror of Frankenstein (1970) 1 Sheet Art: Mike Vaughan

I have never seen a quad version of this. This one sheet went for $15.

vamlover.JPG (779088 bytes) The Vampire Lovers (1970) Quad Art: Mike Vaughan

First and best movie of the Carmilla Trilogy, second best art (Twins of Evil is best). I have the double bill version.

blood from the mummys tomb teaserblood from the mummys tomb 1 sheet.jpg (40795 bytes) Blood From the Mummy's Tomb (1971) 20x30 Teaser Art: Mike Vaughan

1sheet below seen on Ebay going for $50 March 2007, darn I need that unlimited budget...

hands of the ripper.jpg (23200 bytes) Hands of the Ripper (1971) Original Full Quad Art: Mike Vaughan

Nice single feature version of the poster I have twinned with Twins of Evil. Ebayed for $100 late 2006.

dr jekyll and sister hyde quad.jpg (81181 bytes)dr jekyll and sister hyde.jpg (53808 bytes)BRITISH 20X30 TEASER 1971 Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde (1971) Quad

This is the only quad version I've seen, went for about $85 in April. Bottom is a 20x30 teaser (D).

creatures the world forgot.jpg (36436 bytes) Creatures the World Forgot (1971) Quad Art: Arnaldo Putzu

Julie Ege * Brian O'Shaughnessy * Tony Bonner * Robert John

I have a version of this as a double bill with A Touch Of The Other, one pictured here went for $120 early 2007 on Ebay. A bit too pricey for me to upgrade since my double bill just has B movie in the same space as the tear off yellow panel text, so no new art exposed in this full quad.

the creeping flesh 1973

the creeping flesh 3.jpg (22792 bytes)

the creeping flesh blood brides.jpg (51325 bytes)

The Creeping Flesh (1973)

Not Hammer but makes it in due to high nostalgia factor...first X rated Horror I ever saw in a Cinema on first release...mum took me! The silkscreened mess in the middle is the more Quad version that usually shows up and sells for a ridiculous price. The Double Bill at the bottom was the actual cinema version I saw all those years ago, alas also too pricey I settled for the 1 Sheet.

captain kronos.jpg (39654 bytes) Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter (1974) / Girl With the Thunderbolt Kick

Horst Janson, John Cater, John Carson, Caroline Munro, Shane Briant, Ian Hendry and Wanda Ventham

A better idea than Legend below but needed a better leading man than the Wooden Horst. Could have been good, wasn't...everyone else in it was, Brian Clemens wrote a good yarn. For a relatively recent film very few versions of the quad Poster around, this one went on Ebay for about $90 in mid 2006.

nessie.jpg (66469 bytes) Nessie (Never) Teaser

A film that never was...20x10 teaser for a 1978 proposal from Hammer that never got off the ground. Didn't stop the artwork selling for $50...
